Sprell's Transition to a Headless Architecture

Since 1995, Sprell has been a leading provider of high-quality toys, baby equipment, and children's room interior with a focus on sustainability and educational content. With 23 stores in Norway and Sweden, as well as an online store, they faced a challenge: their own custom-built, complex systems hindered innovation and adaptation in the ever-changing retail landscape.

To address this challenge, Sprell embarked on a strategic journey to modernize its technological foundation, aiming to streamline operations and increase efficiency. They conducted a comprehensive review of their tech stack, with a primary focus on transitioning to a headless architecture, emphasizing flexibility and scalability.

Their need for a central hub led them to Omnium, recommended by existing users. Already in talks with Front Systems for their POS solution, the decision to partner with Omnium was straightforward due to their existing integration and partnership.

Building a Seamless Online Experience

The first step was to build a website tailored for the Swedish market, integrated with Omnium's "Click and Collect" service. This solution allows customers to order online and pick up items at their nearest Sprell store. Orders are updated in real-time and seamlessly managed through Omnium's OMS.

Omnichannel Synchronization

One of the most complex aspects in an omnichannel context is synchronizing master data and ensuring that all sales channels have access to the right information in real-time. Omnium solves this with continuous synchronization of price lists, costs, and product data between the online store and POS. Additionally, all orders are consolidated in Omnium, ensuring that receipts from POS are available online, and vice versa.

With Omnium, Sprell can offer a true omnichannel shopping cart. Prices are automatically calculated every time an item is scanned in the POS, ensuring consistency across platforms without the need to synchronize complex promotion rules. As a result, a customer shopping in-store receives the same offers as one shopping online.

Efficient Inventory Management

Inventory from both physical stores and the main warehouse is available through the OMS, and is now automatically updated across all sales channels. To ensure efficient inventory management, purchase orders are created in the OMS and automatically sent for reception in the POS system, which is also synchronized back to the OMS.

Launching a New Online Store

The next step was to launch a completely new online store for both the Norwegian and Swedish markets. By adopting a headless approach and leveraging the synergy between Omnium and Front Systems, Sprell significantly improved its operational agility.This enabled them to deliver excellent customer experiences while staying ahead in the competitive retail landscape.

Unified order processing

Integration with Front Systems and Voyado

Omnium's full integration with both Front Systems and Voyado ensures seamless communication between systems, orchestrating communication between the website and POS solution. This enables all aspects to function in a full omnichannel setting, from loyalty programs to return processes.

Sprell has had a strong focus on Best of Breed, and now we have an architecture that can scale further, even to other markets.

Scalability_ Flexibility

Flexibility with Best-of-Breed Solutions

Best-of-breed has been a strong focus for Sprell, ensuring that they have a scalable architecture. They can easily swap out components as needed, ensuring each provider delivers what they are best at. Finding a good dynamic in who does what is essential to avoid duplicating functionality.

While Omnium's main focus is OMS, the system also provides a foundation with straightforward solutions for other components. Currently, Sprell utilizes product enrichment and headless commerce from Omnium. However, they can easily integrate a solution from dedicated providers if they need more functionality in the future.

With a scalable architecture that can expand to other markets, Sprell now has a solid tech stack with omnichannel functionality that facilitates further growth and innovation.
